Pékin est la capitale de la RPC et l'une des plus grandes mégapoles de la carte du monde.
Le nom «Beijing» se traduit par «the Northern Capital». Les premiers établissements sur le site où se trouve aujourd'hui la ville moderne ont existé au XIe siècle av. L'histoire de la Chine a laissé de nombreux lieux d'intérêt ici, qui attirent des milliers de touristes chaque année.Les bâtiments antiques les plus remarquables de Pékin sont les bâtiments de la Cité Interdite, le plus grand complexe de palais au monde, qui a servi de résidence aux empereurs chinois jusqu'en 1912. Aujourd'hui, la Cité Interdite est un musée d'œuvres d'art et d'architecture traditionnelle chinoise. Parmi les monuments anciens, il convient également de noter le palais d'été, la forteresse de Wanping et les tours de cloches et de tambours. Tous sont notés dans le guide de la ville.D'autres endroits populaires de la ville sont la place Tiananmen, la plus grande place du monde avec une porte du même nom, le Musée national de Chine et le mausolée du dirigeant Mao Zedong.L'aire métropolitaine est emmêlée par un réseau de routes et de chemins de fer. Les transports à Pékin comprennent les lignes de métro et près de 600 lignes d'autobus et de trolleybus.
